Estimate line antifreeze volume (rough)
This calculator estimates the liquid volume inside a pool plumbing line from the pipe diameter and approximate line length. It then adds a safety factor to provide a rough planning amount for non-toxic pool antifreeze.
The result assumes the line is mostly full. If the plumbing has been blown out correctly, the actual amount needed may be much lower.
Pool antifreeze can provide backup protection in winterized plumbing where small amounts of water may remain after the lines are cleared. It is not a replacement for blowing water out of the lines, sealing the plumbing, and protecting equipment correctly.
Only antifreeze labeled for swimming-pool plumbing should be used. Automotive antifreeze is toxic and must never be added to pool lines.
No. Many properly blown and sealed lines do not need it. Use depends on the closing method, plumbing layout, climate, and professional preference.
Use only according to the product label. Pool antifreeze is intended for plumbing protection, not as a routine pool-water additive.
Only when that matches the winterizing method and product instructions. The skimmer and plumbing must still be properly isolated and protected.
Use the best reasonable estimate and add a modest safety factor. Avoid assuming every underground line is a straight path.
Antifreeze is backup insurance, not the closing plan. A dry, sealed line is the real goal.
